How does AI background removal work?
imgshrnk uses ISNet, a state-of-the-art segmentation model, to detect subjects and separate them from backgrounds. The model runs locally in your browser via ONNX Runtime Web.
Is my image uploaded to a server?
No. The AI model is downloaded once to your browser, then runs entirely locally. Your images never leave your device and are never stored.
What formats are supported?
Upload JPEG, PNG, or WebP. The result is always a transparent PNG — JPEG does not support transparency, so PNG is the only format that preserves the removed background.
Why does the first image take longer?
The ISNet model (~170 MB) needs to download and initialise in your browser the first time. After that, each image processes much faster.
